Getting around Beirut
Beirut is not a city designed for pedestrians, private rather than the public transport is a priority over here. Taxis are the main form of public transport and can be easily hailed on the streets. The red and white buses are run by the privately owned Lebanese commuting company and the large blue and white OCFTC are owned by the government. There are no timetables but the companies run buses from roughly 5.30 am to 9 pm with services departing roughly after every 15 minutes. They are especially good value for trips to places like Brummana and Beit Mery. Beirut -Rafic Hariri International Airport which is located 5 kilometers from the city center is the Lebanon’s only civilian airport where certified taxis running on official rates to the city.
