San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
One of the unconventional museums in America, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) has a great following among museum lovers. Designed by the noted architects this museum is one of the pioneer institution that gives impetus to the art world. The museum is now closed for the expansion till early 2016 when it will be opened with a massive 235,000-sq-ft area.
Musee Mecanique
Situated in the Fisherman's Wharf neighbourhood, Musée Mécanique houses a large number of penny arcade and coin-operated music and amusement machines that makes it a hot favourite among visitors. Mechanical fortune-telling machines are also housed here and are highly popular. If children are travelling with you never forget to take them to this museum where they can get some valuable history lesions. The museum doesn’t have entry fee but you will be charged when you use a machine.
Contemporary Jewish Museum
Founded in 1984, the Contemporary Jewish Museum (The CJM) aims at making the diverse Jewish experience relevant for a twenty-first century audience. To achieve this goal several exhibitions and educational programs are run by the museum. In recent decades, the number of exhibits has been increased to address a wider audience. During your visit you will see several programs such as live music, theatre, dance, literary events, and even film screenings. In recent decades, the museum has seen an expansion, and now one can see more exhibits on an extended area.
San Francisco Railway Museum
The museum which is situated at the South of Market area of San Francisco showcases antique streetcars of the F Market & Wharves and national landmark cable cars that speak volumes about the development of engines. The museum charges nothing for entry of visitors. Several artefacts related to the development of Railway are also on display here.
