Museums are places where one can get slice history, heritage, culture, education and science giving visitors an insight into past, present and future to an extent. And Czech capital Prague with its immaculate beauty and several museums is a fine place to have a look into its history and culture which goes back to several centuries. Not a surprise, the city receives a large number of history and culture buffs from around the world who come here to visit its several museums and art galleries. For those flying to Prague for a cultural trip here we are giving a brief account of museums and art galleries in Prague.

National Museum, Prague

National Museum of Prague is a fine place to see historical, scientific and cultural exhibits from across the country. Founded in 1818 by Kašpar Maria Šternberg with the help of historian František Palacký the museum has around 14 million items on display related to natural history, history, arts and music.

National Technical Museum

If you are someone who is interested in seeing historical developments of the country, then National Technical Museum is the best place to do this. Founded in 1908 and shifted to a new location in 1941, the museum boasts of large number of exhibits. Visitors can choose from five expositions. In 2001 the museum added a Railroad Museum that exhibits 100 railway vehicles.

Museum of Communism

The Museum of Communism tells tale of the post–World War II Communist regime in Czechoslovakia when 200,000 arrested and another 327 lost their lives while trying to cross the border. The museum tells the story of that sordid past through photos and videos.

Prague Jewish Museum

One can explore Jewish heritage in Prague during their visit to Prague Jewish Museum. The museum was founded by 1906 by historian Dr. Hugo Lieben and Dr. Augustin Stein with an aim to preserve artifacts from the Prague synagogues demolished during the Urban renewal.

Museum Kampa

Art lovers should visit Museum Kampa that offers a fine collection of Central European and Czech artworks in a fine setting. Opened in 2003, the museum has artworks from the collection of Meda Mládek, wife of Jan V. Mládek. Apart from its collection, the museum is also admired for its beautiful setting on the banks of the Kampa Island on the River Vltava.

Prague National Gallery

Prague National Gallery boasts of largest collection of artworks in Czech Republic. A detailed visit of the gallery will require lots of time and effort but the experience would be very enriching. The museum has categorised its exhibits according to historical periods and styles making it easy for visitors to explore.
