One of the major cities in California, San Francisco steals hearts with its scenic beauty, cultural attractions, Victorian architecture and happening art scene. This energetic city by bay area is stunningly situated on a peninsula. The city offers an array of activities, great dining options, exciting nightlife and happening event calendar the tourists couldn’t have asked for more. Here we give a lowdown on things to do for travellers flying to San Francisco.

Golden Gate Bridge

San Francisco can’t be imagined without Golden Gate Bridge. Built in 1937, the bridge has been filmed into several movies. The bridge that is spanned across the Golden Gate has been declared one of the seven wonders of the modern world. So a visit to this bridge should be part of your itinerary.

Golden Gate Park

Golden Gate Park may not be as famous as Golden Bridge but it is famous in its own right. Spread over an area of 1,017 acres, the parks gives you a reflection of Central Park in New York. In addition to its verdant greenery, the park is also home to several sights that include Music Concourse Area, De Young Museum, Academy of Sciences, Japanese Tea Garden, Conservatory of Flowers and San Francisco Botanical Garden at Strybing Arboretum among others.

Alcatraz Island

Situated off the coast of San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz has served in various capacitites like a military fortification, military prison and later federal prison. The island now serves as a recreational area and has been declared a National Historic Landmark in 1986.

Fisherman’s Wharf

One of the major tourist attractions in San Francisco, Fisherman’s Wharf is well known for being location of several places of tourist interest that includes Pier39, Cannery Shopping Center and the Musée Mécanique, the Wax Museum at Fisherman's Wharf, the Aquarium of the Bay, and the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. Not a surprise, a large number of travellers frequent this area.

Coit Tower

Coit Tower alternatively referred as the Lillian Coit Memorial Tower is situated in Telegraph Hill neighbourhood. This 210 feet tower offers a panoramic view of the city. Once levelled as communist monument, the landmark is highly frequented for murals.

San Francisco cable car system

San Francisco cable car system is one of the most iconic things in the city as it is worlds last manually operated cable car systems. The cable car system that dates back to 1973 is mostly used by tourists. This unique mode of transport has been listed in the National Register of Historical Places.

San Francisco is a vast city with a string of attractions that include Union Square, Planetorium and Ghirardelli Square,Aquarium of the Bay and Asian Art Museum of San Francisco among others.
