After decades of dictatorship, the Asian country of Myanmar (formerly called as Burma) has opened its doors for tourists. And the response is overwhelming. Very few countries in the world have shot to the top of travellers’ wish list as fast as Myanmar. The reasons are more than obvious. The country with golden temples, rich Buddhist culture, wealth of natural attractions and welcoming people is a place every tourist would love to visit.

Yangon
Yangon, formerly called as Rangoon, is a major city and former capital of Myanmar. Despite not being the seat of power the city remains important for being commercial heart of the country and gateway to Myanmar for the world. The presence of glorious Shwedagon Paya (Pagoda) and several heritage buildings further enhances its tourism potentials. The tourists are flooded with various interesting options that include visiting its lively markets, savouring lip smacking delicacies at Chinatown or enjoying a commute at its local trains.
Bagan
The historic city of Bagan attracts tourists with its large number of Buddhist temples, pagodas, stupas and ruins. The town situated on the banks of Irrawaddi River has also served as the capital of the Kingdom of Pagan from 9th to 13th centuries.
Mandalay
The second largest city of Myanmar is also an economic and religious hub in upper Myanmar. The city founded in 1857 by King Mindon was very prosperous until Japanese and allies forces bombed it in 1942. The bombing ruined many of city’s historic buildings including historic Mandalay Palace. The present palace is rebuilt one. Besides, Mandalay is also an important hub for trade with neighbouring China.
Bago
Situated in Irrawaddy region, the capital of Baga Divison is popular among travellers. The city is easily accessible from Yangon. The city is home to three reclining Buddhas that includes popular Shwe-tha-lyaung pagoda. During their visit to the city tourists can also explore its historic ruins.
Mawlamyine
Mawlamyine, the capital of Mon State in Southeastern Myanmar is the fourth largest city in Myanmar. Despite being home to a large population, the city is quite small in size. The city is home to a good number of churches, monasteries, and pagodas; Nwa Le Bo Pagoda, Pa Auk Taw Ya Monastery, St Matthews and Kyaik Tan Lan Pagoda are prominent among them.
Naypyidaw
Naypyidaw, the capital of Myanmar is popularly called as NPT. The city boasts of a good infrastructure but it has a very small population in comparison to its size. Contrary to other world cities the chances of getting stuck in traffic is very low. Due to its location between two mountains opportunities of excursion is very low.
