Chile seems to be a canvass tastefully painted by nature and it is not an exaggeration for the country which is situated at the narrow strip of land situated along the southern half of the west coast of South America. Its stunning location between the Andes and Pacific Ocean offers it perfect setting. Pertaining to its coastal setting, most people pass it off as a beach destination but this South American country has more to offer than you think. And you will get astonished to see deserts, glaciers and smouldering volcanoes. Besides, the country is also well known for its bustling urban hubs. And every city in Chile has a character of its own. Here we are giving a brief account of its major cities.

Santiago

Most of the travellers, who wish to visit Chile, fly to Santiago which is capital and cultural hub of the country. Founded in 1541, by Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia, the Chilean capital is now a hot favourite among travellers; thanks to its tourist attractions, convivial environment and fine dining spaces. Situated in dramatic landscape of Andes and adorned with several manicured garden, Santiago is a perfect treat to your eyes. Its central location makes it a jumping off point to explore other destination situated in and around the city. The Chilean capital has a host of tourist attractions that you may find interesting that include Parque Metropolitano, Plaza De Armas,Santiago Centro, La Chascona, Centro Cultural Gabriela Mistral (GAM) and Museo Chileno de Arte Precolombino.

Concepción

Situated in the coastal Biobío Region, Concepción, the second largest city in Chile is locally called Conce. This once prosperous city was ravaged by an earthquake and rampant lawlessness after the earthquake further aggravated the condition. But now, the city is steadily on the path of recovery. It boasts an excellent infrastructure that makes getting around the city a lot easier. Concepción has not much to offer in terms of tourist attraction but the travelers can visit Universidad de Concepción which looks stunning with its large manicured gardens. If you harbor love for museums you can go to Museo Hualpén, an old building that has been converted into a museum and houses works of Mr. Pedro del Rio Zañartu, a globetrotter.

La Serena

One of the oldest cities in Chile, La Serena is the capital of Region IV. Its beautiful shoreline and magnificent architecture have a huge appeal among travelers who come from the different parts of the world while on a vacation in Chile. During your visit to the city, you will come across beautiful churches, tree lined avenues and eye-catching plazas. Sights of some colonial era buildings are also likely.

Valparaíso

Stunningly located in Central Chile on the pacific coast Valparaíso is best identified with bohemian culture, brightly painted houses and spectacular coastline. This one of the most unusual cities in Latin America has always inspired poets, painters and philosophers. The city seems to be living in today and working for tomorrows. There are some beautiful tourist attractions in the city and food and dining scene is also excellent. La Sebastiana, Plaza Matriz, Plaza Sotomayor and Cultural Park Valapraiso are popular tourist attractions.

Valdivia

A major town in Southern Chile, Valdivia is capital city of Chile's newest Región XIV (Los Ríos). The city got capital status in year 2007. Atmosphere at the city is youthful as it is one of the most important towns in the city. As it is situated on the confluence of Calle Calle, Cau Cau and Cruces rivers Valdivia is also called the “city of rivers”. There is an array of accommodation and dining options situated in the city so travelers should not worry about that part.

Punta Arenas

Punta Arenas which is situated on the northern tip of Strait of Magellan is known for centuries for its maritime importance. The capital of Chile's Magallanes y Antártica Region is one of the major destinations for those seeking vacation in Chile. One can explore its several tourist attractions that include La Cruz Hill Viewpoint, Austral Brewery. Braun-Menéndez Museum, Museo del Recuerdo and Nao Victoria Museum.
