More than anything, Denmark is well known for its quality of life. And it is not a small feat in the era where development brings with it fast paced life and almost no time to relax. But the Danes know well how to have their cake and eat it. The sights of mothers parking their baby carriages at coffee shops are very common. The country has scored well on different metrics of quality living and adjudged best destinations to live in different surveys. And this country in Scandinavia region has everything you might be looking in a tourism destination. History, art, museums, dining and good quality of life - all are there. Here we give a lowdown on major cities in Denmark.
Copenhagen
Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, looks elegant with glittering skyline, bustling cafes, busy streets and myriad tourist attractions for people across all ages. And on any day you will see a large number of people strolling to their desired destination given ample opportunities for pedestrians. The city is home to several museums, art galleries, architectural marvels, royal palaces, beaches and amusement parks to cater travellers with varying interest. A fishing colony during 12th centuries its fortune started changing when Valdemar the Great gave it to Bishop Absalon who built a castle here. Now the castle houses Parliament. Later it grew as a major destination. During their visit to the city, the travellers have lots of things to do and an array of attractions to explore. The travellers can begin their trip with a visit to Little Mermaid statue. Romantic souls can go to Tivoli Gardens. The travellers should also go to The National Museum which is housed in an 18th-century mansion and is also a major landmark. Museum Erotica with its several artefacts is also worth exploring.
Aalborg
Aalborg offers a lot in terms of history, culture and other things travellers might be looking for. The city divided into two by Limfjord, was popular for its strategic and commercial importance. Even today it is well known as a great hub of business and education and houses a large student community. Apart from other things, the city of Aalborg is well known for its myriad cultural offerings that include theatres, symphony orchestra, opera, several museums and beautiful traditional buildings. Aalborg is also home to excellent shopping and dining options that make it more interesting. The city of Aalborg has enough attractions to keep them engaged for few days. They can go to visit Legoland where everything is constructed from Lego bricks. Here you can find small replica of cities and villages from around the world. Some of the major attractions of the Legoland are ; the Statue of Liberty; a statue of Sitting Bull; Mt. Rushmore; a safari park and Pirate Land. Those visiting the city of Aalborg should also visit its major points of interest that include Aalborg Akvavit, Aalborg Castle (Aalborg Slot), Aalborg Tower, Aalborg Townhall and Aalborg Zoo. KUNSTEN Modern Museum of Art, Ancient Viking graveyard, Budolfi Church and House of Music are among other popular attractions. Aalborg Carnival, which is an annual festival celebrated with much fanfare, gives a reflection of cultural life of Aalborg. And if you’re visiting this city the easiest way to get around the city is by renting a bicycle. You can visit its markets to buy souvenirs or visit a restaurant to gorge on local as well as intercontinental cuisines.
Aarhus
Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark is an elegant mix of cosmopolitan city and small town. Presence of a large number of tourist attractions, scrumptious dinning hubs and museums makes it a favourite among vacationers. The city is home to some top notch museums, parks and dining options and presence of a large student community gives it a youthful characters. The city also keeps holding several festivals round the year which also draws a large number of visitors. ARoS (Aarhus Art Museum) which is one of the largest museums in the country draws various travellers with its black-walled galleries filled with large collection. Den Gamle By which is an open air museum has several shops and restaurants that can be explored after a visit to the city. Moesgaard Museum which is enjoying a stunning location amidst parks, forests and beaches is one of the major landmarks in the city. The museum boasts large archaeological and ethnographic collections. The University Park which is a fine piece of architecture should also be visited where you can see the State Library, a Natural History Museum and the Steno Museum among other things. Aarhus Viking Museum, which is a small sized museum is also a popular landmark in the city. In addition, the city offers a lot in terms of art and cinema.
Ribe
Ribe, the oldest town in Denmark, looks elegant with its cobbled streets, timbered houses, silently flowing rivers and green meadows. Most parts of the old town which is synonymous to living history have been declared as persevered zone. The area houses more than 100 buildings registered with national trust. During their visit to the city, the guests would have opportunity to see its some of the major draw cards that include Ribe Cathedral, Ribe Art Museum, Ribes Vikinger and Wadden Sea National Park.
