Wizz Air to fly direct to Vilnius from Glasgow
By Carlton Leisure - 16 Apr 2015
Wizz Air, a prominent budget airline in Central and Eastern Europe, has revealed its plan to launch direct flights from Glasgow to Vilnius, the Lithuanian capital.
With this launch by Wizz Air, for the first time Vilnius will receive a year round, twice weekly direct service from Glasgow. The services will start from 16 September 2015.
Vilnius is one of the prominent cities in the Baltic region and known for housing the largest surviving medieval quarters in Europe. The city attracts travellers with medieval, gothic, renaissance, and baroque buildings of Old Town which are now listed as the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1994.
Wizz Air commenced operation from Glasgow Airport in March 2013 and the addition of Vilnius route will bring the total number of destinations from Glasgow to seven. Currently the airline is offering services to the Polish cities of Warsaw, Poznan, Katowice and Gdansk.
Previously on 1 April 2015, the carrier announced to add direct flights to the Hungarian capital of Budapest and the Polish city of Lublin.
A senior official from Glasgow Airport expressed his pleasure on this development, saying the carrier has gone from strength-to-strength since its arrival at Glasgow Airport two years ago. The carrier has responded to demand by adding direct flights to popular European destinations and launch of Vilnius service is expected to be well received by Lithuanian and Scottish passengers.
In next three months, the carrier will launch further 13 new routes from Glasgow Airport that include direct flights to Las Vegas, Munich, Prague and Bordeaux.
