The airport with a large catchment area achieved a rolling 12-month passenger tally above 23 million for the first time in its 77-year history today out of which around six million flew on inter-continental services.
The only British Airport with two runways other than London Heathrow, the airport is operating at its half strength and could support 20 to 25 more long-haul destinations based on current demand.
A top official from the airport said that they will reach 25 million passengers mark shortly, and get into the mid 30 million by the late 2020s or early 2030s.
