Qantas has revealed its plans to launch nonstop flights between London and Perth within two years. After launch it will be the longest commercial flight in the world. The duration of flights would be 19 hour.

The airline’s chief executive revealed its plans to launch direct service from Australia to Europe for the first time.

The airline will operate LHR- Perth route with the B787-9 which will be delivered to airline in 2017.

Previously a refuelling layover was required for services between Australia and Europe given large distance between these destinations. Previously, Qantas used Singapore as its layover hub. Later Dubai made a stopover following its tie up with Emirates in 2013.

Currently London Heathrow is Qantas sole European destination and the proposed Perth - LHR route will complement these services. Due to afforded range of the B787-9, a direct service between Perth and London seems feasible.

The launch of this service would provide excellent air connectivity between these destinations.
