EasyJet to launch flights to Tunisia
By Carlton Leisure - 20 Feb 2015
EasyJet, a major British carrier has got entry into Tunisian air space with the launch of a flight to Monastir, this summer.
Here, it is worth noting that Tunisian government fiercely guards air routes to Tunisia in order to protect state-owned Tunisair, and the country was not interested to allow low cost European budget airlines.
But fall of tourists’ numbers prompted government to rethink its policy and subsequently permission to Easyjet was granted to operate twice weekly flights from Stansted to Monastir from June 2.
An official from the airline said that the EasyJet is a designated airline for the UK - Tunisia Air Service Agreement and thus able to operate flights to Monastir.
The route is supposed to be popular among those who want a different experience this summer.
Previously, Easyjet had confirmed two other new routes from Gatwick.
